JUANITA CARE wanted to pay tribute to its Peruvian blood by creating the “Mochicas” jewelry collection, inspired by the pre-Columbian and pre-Inca Moche culture (100 BC – 800 AD). This culture, which had no written language, shared its history with us through its crafts. Through their pottery, architecture, mummies, jewelry, clothing and boats, they shared their customs, rituals and religion with us. For this coastal population, the moon, unlike many cultures of the time who worshipped the sun, was more powerful. Moreover, it was visible day and night. Its power over the tides also ensured good fishing and therefore good nutrition. In a world where everything is dematerialized, where we can no longer believe what we see, we are left with the shapes we touch. The jewels found in the earth, trampled and compacted by hundreds of years of rain and sun, still speak to us today. What would we like to say about ourselves?
